Travel insurance is the one thing that everyone needs to know how to navigate if they travel a lot.
In its basic form, trip interruption insurance covers having to go home early for usually the same reasons as trip cancellation insurance. Some forms do cover expenses used to finish the vacation or re-join the rest of the group at a later date during the trip. Not all plans have this, and it is best to look over each plan before picking one to ensure your trip.
Most insurance polices do cover trip interruption. However, always check to be sure. They could be an isolated package, so check. There are notes to consider about this kind of insurance, however. The tickets used for the trip interruption – for example to go home – must be similar quality or economy fare as the tickets that were used to arrive. Of course, applied credit from an unused return ticket is taken into account. Some plans will offer Trip Interruption – Return Air Only coverage even if you enter $0 as your trip cost when quoting and buying.
Often times, the reasons that a trip interruption insurance policy would take effect are specific covered reasons. They include:
– injury/illness,
– death of or hospitalization of the host,
– victim of assault prior to trip,
– school year extension,
There are other reasons that a trip would be covered under interruption insurance (required to work or being transferred or terminated being among the others not listed above), but many are the same as those that a cancellation policy would cover as well.
If you are afraid that you may have to interrupt your trip for any other reason, it may help to purchase “cancel for any reason” coverage.
