AIG Travel Guard offers the Deluxe plan as their high-end travel insurance option. Its comprehensive travel coverage is top of the line. Travel Guard provides one of the highest coverage limits available for primary medical coverage. Pre-existing medical conditions can be covered if the Deluxe plan is purchased within 15 days of the purchaser’s initial trip payment date. The plan also provides coverage if the trip is canceled or delayed due to injury, illness, employment loss, and more.
In addition to excellent coverage, this plan also includes access to assistance services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Help is always available for most travel-related needs, before and during the trip. The AIG Travel Guard – Deluxe Plan is easy to purchase, simple to use, and offers protection for every kind of trip.
The Deluxe plan is family-friendly and offers free coverage for one child under the age of 17, as long as this child is related to, and booked for travel with the primary adult listed on the enrollment form.
The child’s coverage is included in the rate paid for each adult. The offer does not apply to optional coverage, however. In addition, the cost of the trip for the child must not exceed the cost of the adult’s trip. Complete information for exclusions and coverage is available through the state of residence’s Policy of Insurance. AIG Travel Guard plans may not be available in specific states.
This insurance covers up to 100% of the insured costs of the trip and can cover trip costs up to $150,000 per person, one of the highest limits in the industry. The Deluxe plan’s covered reasons for cancellation include the unexpected injury, illness, or the death of the insured, a business partner, traveling companion, family member or host at the traveler’s destination. The Deluxe plan also introduces some new cancellation covered reasons not found in most other plans such as coverage for teachers who face an extended school year, students who have unexpected sporting or theatrical events that affect a trip, an unexpected riot or civil disorder causing a cancellation or delay of the common carrier, and cruise cancellations due to too much or to little water. A limit of 150% of the cost of the trip is covered for trip interruption. Nonrefundable unused deposits or payments are also covered if the trip is interrupted for any of the above reasons, with maximum coverage of $225,000 per person.
Trip Cancellation for Any Reason
For the most flexibility to cancel a trip, travelers should consider a plan with a Cancel for Any Reason optional upgrade. The Deluxe Plan offers a Cancel for Any Reason upgrade as long as you purchase the plan within 15 days of making your initial trip deposit and insure 100% of your pre-paid and non-refundable trip costs. The Cancel for Any Reason upgrade will reimburse up to 50% of the insured trip costs, provided the trip is cancelled no less than 2 days prior to the departure date.
In the case of a trip exchange, a maximum of 50% of the cost of the trip is covered. The amount reimbursed is detailed on the Schedule of Benefits under Maximum Limit. If the trip is interrupted or canceled due to any of the circumstances listed in the plan’s certificate of insurance, the price difference between the new reservation and the original reservation will be refunded up to a maximum of $75,000.
Coverage for return transportation has a limit of $1,000. Additional expenses for transportation when reaching the return destination are covered, provided one of the events listed above for trip interruption is met.
Baggage is covered to a maximum value of $2,500 if the luggage is stolen, damaged, or lost during the trip. Baggage coverage is primary. The maximum reimbursement for a baggage delay is $500. If this delay lasts longer than 12 hours, the plan will reimburse the purchase cost of necessary personal items.
Security evacuation is covered up to a maximum of $100,000 for trip interruptions, trip cancellations, and Flight Guard resulting from civil disorder or a riot.
Trip delays are covered up to a maximum of $1,000. Reimbursement is $200 each day, provided the additional expenses are reasonable. Expenses are covered up to $1,000 when the delay is for more than five hours and for covered reasons.
Trip Saver is a feature of this insurance that provides reimbursement for additional transportation, hotels, and meals when the covered traveler must start the trip before the originally-scheduled departure date due to carrier changes or inclement weather.
This plan provides maximum reimbursement of $1,000 due to carrier delays or cancellations of regularly scheduled departures for airline flights. To be covered, the delay must be for a minimum of three hours. Missed connection reimbursement does not apply if the traveler failed to allow enough time for connecting flights.
Travel Inconvenience Benefits
The Travel Inconvenience benefit has a coverage limit of $250 per unforeseen event listed below, or $750 in aggregate. The Schedule of Benefits details the maximum limit of reimbursement for these unforeseen events:
- Closed attractions
- Missing work
- Flight delays
- Flight cancellations
- Runway delays
- Cruise and river cruise diversions
- Flight diversions
- Rental vehicle breakdowns
- Bed rest
- Hotel infestation
- Hotel construction
- 24-hour baggage delays
- 12-hour trip delays

Travel Medical or Dental Expenses
The Deluxe plan offers a a medical expense coverage limit of $100,000 per person including a dental expense sub-limit of $500 per person for covered expenses incurred during your trip due to an injury or sickness that occurs while on your trip.
Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
AD&D coverage is $30,000 when the traveler has a loss of life or limb resulting from an accident while traveling. The coverage is for up to 365 days after the accident occurred.
Repatriation or emergency evacuation expenses are covered up to a maximum of $1,000,000 when a physician directs the traveler to the most adequate and closest medical facility when necessary. If the individual is medically able to travel to the hospital of their choice, the coverage still applies.
Flight Guard covers the traveler for dismemberment or death up to $100,000 occurring when alighting from or boarding on a regularly scheduled charter or flight. The Schedule of Benefits details the maximum amount of the coverage.
Ancillary Evacuation Benefits
The maximum coverage is $5,000 for:
- Return of children
- Bedside traveling companion
- Return transportation
- Baggage return
- Bedside visits
24-Hour Roadside Assistance Services
The Deluxe plan’s global travel assistance services include the following 24-Hour roadside assistance:
- Towing Assistance – When towing is necessary, the covered vehicle will be towed to the nearest service facility or to any location requested by the insured
- Flat Tire Assistance – Service consists of the replacement of a flat tire with the covered vehicle’s spare tire. Towing assistance will be provided if needed
- Oil, Fluid, and Water Delivery Service – An emergency supply of oil, fluid, and water will be delivered to your covered vehicle
- Fuel Delivery Service – An emergency supply of fuel will be delivered to any covered insured
- Lock-out Assistance – Assistance will be provided in gaining lawful entry to a covered vehicle if the keys are lost or locked inside
- Battery Assistance – Battery assistance (jump-start) will be provided to any insured
- Collision Assistance – If a/an insured is involved in a collision in the covered vehicle, towing assistance will be arranged when needed, to direct the vehicle back to the issuing dealership, if possible, or to the nearest qualified repair facility
