The RoamRight Medical plan is an international travel insurance plan that covers medical and evacuation expenses if an accident happens while you’re overseas. Although you likely have regular health insurance, it probably doesn’t cover your medical needs if you become injured or sick while you’re outside of the country. The RoamRight Medical trip insurance plan is meant to fill this gap, protecting you from the unexpected on an up to six-month trip. With varying amounts of protection, learn more about the benefits of this package below.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment
The AD&D benefit provides coverage in the event that an accident causes your death. It also covers the loss of a limb or your sight in a travel accident. The plan level that you choose will include a Table of Losses that details the amount of benefit that the plan will pay to cover the loss.
Dental
The dental benefit only covers emergency dental treatment that arises from an accident that causes injury to natural teeth. This means that you can go to a dentist to fix a broken or chipped tooth without paying the full cost while you’re on a trip. The dental benefit doesn’t cover cosmetic or elective treatments, routine checkups or pre-existing conditions.
Emergency Accident and Illness
The emergency medical benefit covers the treatment that you need for an injury or illness that occurs while you’re traveling. Some of the claims included with this travel insurance plan include
- ambulance service,
- anesthetics,
- hospital confinement and operating room charges,
- lab tests,
- medical supplies,
- medications,
- physician visits,
- prosthetics,
- therapeutic services, and
- X-rays.
Emergency Medical Evacuation
Medical evacuations are costly, but the RoamRight Medical plan ensures that you’re transported to an appropriate facility or home if you suffer an injury or sickness that requires medical attention that nearby treatment facilities can’t provide. The necessary medical services and supplies associated with emergency evacuation are also covered, along with escort charges. The plan will cover escort expenses to transport dependent children home as well. Additionally, the evacuation benefit will pay to bring a relative or friend to you if you’re alone and hospitalized for more than seven days.
Repatriation of Remains
The regulations regarding the transport of a person’s remains are different for every country. In the event that you or someone on your trip dies, the repatriation benefit allows for RoamRight to make arrangements for the remains to be returned to the country of citizenship. The remains may also be transported to a nearby cremation or funeral facility.
Optional Sports Upgrade
In addition to the above benefits, you can add a sports upgrade that covers activities such as mountaineering, parachuting and scuba diving. There are several sports coverage options available, from the less adventurous Active package to the more daring Adventure package. These upgrades cover injuries or illnesses that result from your participation in activities that are considered more risky than traditional sightseeing.
Although RoamRight offers a money-back guarantee on its Medical plan during the “free look” period, it’s recommended that you compare plan benefits and costs before you buy to ensure that you’re getting all of the coverage that you need for your specific trip. It’s important that you read the terms and conditions of your potential trip insurance package as well.
