If you’re looking for a trip insurance plan that offers comprehensive coverage with fairly high limits, you may want to take a look at Allianz’s Classic Plan. According to Allianz Global Assistance, it is their most popular travel insurance plan, and it covers children under the ages of 17 for free so long as they are traveling with a parent or grandparent.
The Classic Plan
The plan is designed to provide coverage for a wide range of issues, including trip cancellation, trip interruption, medical costs, and emergency medical transportation. Coverage of expenses up to $100,000 per person is provided with this plan, and up to $25,000 in medical costs are covered. Although the plan offers medical coverage and medical transport coverage, it does not provide coverage for accidental death and dismemberment or for flight accidents.
Along with coverage for major issues, the Classic Plan also provides for a variety of secondary issues. Trip delays and missed connections are covered, as are baggage loss, delay, and damage. The plan even covers the fees to change dates on airline tickets and frequent flyer mile redeposit fees.
Allianz also provides a 24-hour assistance hotline, which is available to help you deal with travel emergencies. Multilingual representatives are available to assist you with finding medical or legal assistance, locating lodgings, and making travel arrangements.
In addition to what this plan automatically covers, you can also opt to upgrade your plan or add on additional coverage. For nine dollars a day, you can purchase primary collision/loss damage coverage for physical damage to a rental car.
If you’re concerned about a trip being cancelled due to work obligations, you can add Required to Work cancellation and interruption coverage for $25 per adult covered. You also have the option of increasing your post-departure benefits, such as lost or damaged luggage coverage, by upgrading your plan to Trip+.
As with any insurance policy, certain costs may not be covered depending on the circumstances that led to a claim. Although this plan offers a fairly robust list of valid reasons for cancelling a trip or filing a claim, it is a good idea to go over its exclusions and take them into account when comparing this trip insurance plan to others.
