Traveling is always a fun and exciting time for any individual, couple or family, especially if that travel involves international destinations. There is a lot that goes into international planning that many people do not think about. The focus of many international trips tends to be gathering as much information about the destination country through guide books and videos. However, there are other factors to consider such as what to pack, getting the right flights, looking at travel insurance companies and tips for making reservations at international hotels. The last two happen to be a couple of the most overlooked facets of international travel. The fact is that everyone should have travel insurance because it covers not only sickness but other areas of travel as well including flight and hotel cancellation and more. Booking international hotels also involves a little more than booking a domestic hotel.
One of the first tips for making reservations at international hotels is a thorough search. Just as one would do when looking at travel insurance companies, finding and booking a hotel in another country takes time and research. It is important to be thorough when looking for a hotel abroad because hotels in other countries are unlike many hotels found in the States. Probably the best way of finding out which hotels are good, put one in a central location and are safe is by looking at previous customer reviews. Although this is not 100% fail proof, it does give one a good indication about the level of hotel they will be booking. Look for positive words about the hotel as well as negative reviews because they will inform an individual about what they should look out for.
Another one of the tips for making reservations is finding out exactly what is included when booking. Unlike American hotels, some international hotels do not carry all of the toiletries one would expect. In some hotels, coffee makers and irons are not included and must be requested, sometimes paid for. Find out if breakfast is included or if there is a discount at the hotel restaurant for guests – this should also include lunch and/or dinner. Find out about other possible amenities and hot the hotel can accommodate guests.
The last reservation tip is finding out about currency exchange. Although one price is posted on the site where one books, that might not be the actual cost. Currency exchanges in different parts of the world are different and a traveler may end up paying more or less than what is advertised. Before punching in credit card information, think about possibly calling the hotel and booking directly to avoid being overcharged and finding out too late about it.
