Life is full of uncertainties; this is the main reason that people choose to purchase insurance products. Your home may burn down, you may be involved in a motor vehicle accident, and you can suddenly fall ill with a debilitating disease. It is only logical that you can expect the unexpected while traveling abroad. Travel insurance should be a mandatory purchase to protect you against potential dangers that can occur while on vacation, during a business trip, or if you are out of the country visiting family.
Purchasing travel insurance as soon as you book a trip is your best course of action to protect you against a variety of potential dangers. One of the main disruptions of a trip is a sudden medical emergency. At any time, you or a member of your family can get sick or injured. If the medical issue is severe enough, it can impact whether or not you can actually go on your trip. If you are forced to cancel a booked vacation, there are usually penalties that are imposed by an airline or tour company. In some cases, an entire vacation may be non refundable. Without travel insurance, you cannot get this money back.
If you are in your destination and you must cut your vacation short and return home, you will be responsible for paying for a one way ticket back to your point of origin. Again, without travel insurance, this cost will be your responsibility. This can occur if you are injured or get sick and must travel back home for medical treatment or if something happens to a family member back home. If you are sick and need immediate medical treatment, depending on where you are, medical facilities may be lacking or they may be very expensive to obtain.
If you are traveling to a destination that can be struck by natural disasters such as hurricanes, tsunamis, or earthquakes, travel insurance will protect you if you are not able to make your flight as a result. If an airline or tour company suddenly claims bankruptcy, chances are they will not refund passengers for their tickets. Travel insurance will step up in both of these cases and reimburse the traveler for any financial loss.
Some people save up for many years to take that dream vacation only to have it all taken away because of some unforeseen and sudden event. Travel insurance will protect you both financially and medically against financial loss before you leave for your trip or while you are in your destination. Without it, you may very well face severe financial burdens and added stress of a ruined holiday.
